Tom Kompas is Director of the Crawford School of Economics and Government and Foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Biosecurity and Environmental Economics (AC BEE). Tom received his PhD in economics from the University of Toronto and teaches Masters Microeconomics, Applied Economic Dynamics and a component of the School’s flagship course, Government, Markets and Global Change. He specialises in economic dynamics, agricultural economics, productivity, and natural resource and environmental economics. His bioeconomic modeling and biosecurity research has been published in the world’s leading international journals (including Science) and his current work focuses on the major biosecurity issues in both Australia and internationally. Tom received the 2004 Crawford Award for Research Excellence from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and the CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement in 2009. In 2008 Tom also received the Award for Teaching Excellence from The College of Asia and the Pacific at the ANU, and in 2009 was a recipient of the ANU’s highest award for teaching, the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is currently Editor of the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics.
