Dr Liu has several research interests and expertise, namely, child labour, children's schooling, gender wage disparities, income inequalities and poverty. She is particularly interested in how the labour market changes in transitional economies. She has been researching on related issues in Vietnam. 'Wage structure in Vietnam', a project supported by a research grant of the International Centre for the Study of East Asian Development (ICEAD), Japan, and changes in income inequality in Vietnam are two projects she has been working on amongst many others.
