CRWF8000 - Government, Markets and Global Change
Offered in: First Semester, 2009 Unit Value: 6 units This course addresses questions of how societies manage common policy problems such as how to encourage economic growth, how to ensure the sustainability of natural resources, how to design institutions to ensure good governance, now and into the future. These are the questions that occupy the minds of policymakers worldwide. In this course, we investigate such challenges from a disciplinary and cross-disciplinary perspective. What is different about the teaching of this course?The course will be taught by a group of scholars from the Crawford School. It therefore harnesses knowledge from the different disciplines taught at Crawford. Thus students will have a unique opportunity to learn about important analytic and theoretical frameworks from a variety of experts. These scholars will be grouped into a lecturing team, and a case study team. Students will apply the theoretical frameworks and engage in applying these through a series of research-driven policy cases. This will represent a valuable opportunity for participating students to work in diverse, interdisciplinary teams, and to consider the challenges faced by policymakers. |

Stephen HowesThe Case Team Dr Stephen Howes is a Professorial Fellow here at Crawford. Previously, he was Chief Economist for the Australian Agency for International Development, where he was lead author of Pacific 2020 and the 2008 Pacific Economic Survey. He has a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. Stephen is currently working on the Garnaut Review on climate change. |
