2011 - ASEAN Post-Summit Briefing, November 21

ANU hosts a briefing post ASEAN and EAS summit by Dr Surin, Director ASEAN.

2011 - 3d GDLN Global Board meeting, Dar Es Salaam, May 23-24

Crawford School participates in Global Board of the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN). Maree Tait is a member of the Global Board of GDLN which met in Dar Es Salaam on May 23 and 24. This was a landmark meeting with a communiqué issued by the group.

The meeting was followed by a Global Business Meeting. Maree is the Chair of the Board's Business Development Working Group.

2010 - GDLN Global Board created to provide guidance to global network

GDLN-Australia, based at the Crawford School at The Australian National University, represents the East Asia and the Pacific region on the newly created Global Board of the GDLN. Maree Tait participated in the creation of the new governance arrangements for the GDLN through the Steering Committee throughout 2009. In November 2010, she represented the region in the first meeting of the Global Board in Sri Lanka, held on November 12, 13 and 14.

2010 - GDLNAP Meetings held

Regional meetings of GDLNAP held in Sir Lanka and Philippines, with Maree Tait attending as a member of Governing Committee.

2009 - Regional Governing Committee Meetings held

GDLN-Australia (Maree Tait) continues as a member of the Regional Governing Committee for the GDLNAP. Meetings were held in Jakarta and Mongolia.

Pacific Leaders Virtual Forum 2008 Completed

GDLN Australias premier program, the Pacific Leaders Virtual Forum (PLVF) has again been completed successfully in 2008. The Forum which runs throughout the year including participants for Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu and Timor Leste, addresses issues and problems faced by small island countries through expert led facilitation and sharing of experiences. In 2008, the series included sessions on: conflict and peace-building; climate and fisheries management; infrastructure; anti corruption; and entrepreneurship. December, 2008 - Annual GDLN Meeting in Hanoi

GDLN-Australia attended the annual GDLN Asia Pacific Regional Business Planning meeting in Hanoi from December 1-5. Partners from across the region came together to discuss opportunities for future program collaboration, and to undertake three days of training in learning design. The training - provided by the World Bank Institute - aimed to further develop the capacity of GDLN partners to deliver first class learning solutions.

July & August, 2008 - Parliamentary Financial Scrutiny Course

Throughout July and August GDLN Australia is facilitating a course developed by the Centre for Democratic Institutions (CDI) and the World Bank Institute. The course entitled Effective Financial Scrutiny: the role of parliament in public finance is part of an ongoing professional development program for parliamentary members and staff in the region. Participating countries include Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Fiji Kiribati. The course includes two videoconferences per week over a four week period as well as online material. 11 December, 2007 - Virtual Book Launch a great success

On Tuesday 11 December 2007, at the University's Baume Video Conference Centre, the Deputy Director General of the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), Richard Moore, and ASEAN Secretariats Principal Director of the Bureau for Economic Integration and Finance, Mr Sundram Pushpanathan, launched the book Brick by Brick: the Building of an ASEAN Economic Community.

The seminar and launch in Canberra was managed by GDLN-Australia and trasmitted by the Global Distance Learning Network to GDLN centres in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Manila and Tokyo. The seminar was very successful with 152 guests participating from the region.
