11 December 2007 - Virtual Book Launch a great success

On Tuesday 11 December 2007, at the ANU’s Baume Video Conference Centre, the Deputy Director General of the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), Richard Moore, and ASEAN Secretariat’s Principal Director of the Bureau for Economic Integration and Finance, Mr Sundram Pushpanathan, launched the book Brick by Brick: the Building of an ASEAN Economic Community.

The seminar and launch in Canberra was managed by GDLN-Australia and trasmitted by the Global Distance Learning Network to GDLN centres in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Manila and Tokyo. The seminar was very successful with 152 guests participating from the region.


5-8 December 2006
Reflecting the dynamic character of the region, Asia Pacific GDLN Distance Learning Centers (DLCs) have continued to expand since 2000, adding new Centers, staff and activities. To maximize the effectiveness of this growing network, a training program was held by GDLN AP and the TDLC from December 5 – 8, 2006 at the Australian National University in Canberra.

9 - 13 October 2006
Crawford staff ( Maree Tait, Liz Ingram and Thang Do Vam ) are attending the World Forum of the GDLN in Washington 9-13 October. They have entered the development impact video competition with a joint presentation with Timor Leste on the Pacific Leaders' Virtual Forum.


11 September - 6 October 2006
From Sept 11 to Oct 6, the blended training program "Training for trainers in Environmental Economics and Governance" was held between Crawford School of Economics and Government and Centre for Resources and Environmental Studies, Vietnam National University, delivered via Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) Australia. Lecturers are Prof Jeff Bennett and Prof Luca Taconi. Twenty students who are lecturers on environmental economics and management in various universities in Hanoi enjoyed informative lectures delivered through video conferences. Lots of fruitful discussions were made between lecturers and students and among students themselves through videoconferences, online forum and email exchanges. Results from three field trips to Ba Be National Park, Van Long wetland protected area and Hanoi Brewery were presented in a student led seminar to help students apply what they have learned into real life situations.

General comments by the students are: GREAT! WE HAVE LEARNED A LOT. WE LIKE TO HAVE MORE OF THIS TRAINING IN THE FUTURE.
