About GDLN – Australia

The Crawford School of Economics and Government manages the Australian node in the World Bank's GDLN for GDLN-Australia.

The Australian Global Development Learning Network (GDLN-Australia), provides a flexible learning system that uses two-way video conferencing, internet and other advanced communication technologies to link together a global network of learning centres. It is an interactive, multi-channel network with a mandate to serve the developing world. GDLN-Australia is a World Bank initiative. The content is targeted at policymakers, development practitioners, and other agents of change.

GDLN-Australia provides learning opportunities for developing countries by facilitating the construction of infrastructure for off-shore sources to provide training in-country through GDLN-Australia Distance Learning Centres (DLC). GDLN-Australia operates through partners, who either receive or send content. There are currently around 50 GDLN partners worldwide. GDLN-Australia's long-term business strategy is to create a network of 150 DLCs operating as self-sustaining entities. It is planned to have up to 50 centres in the Asia Pacific region.

Crawford School is working with Chulalongkorn University to initiate a Community of Health Policymakers and Practitioners throughout the Asia Pacific region . The first meeting will be held virtually via the GDLN and address 'The impact of the tsunami on the health systems of PNG and Sri Lanka'.

About GDLN-EAPA

The Global Development Learning Network East Asia and Pacific Association (GDLN-EAPA) is a regionally based organization within the overall framework of the Global Distance Learning Network (GDLN). The GDLN-EAPA is governed by an informal structure that brings together regional partners in distance learning to cooperatively establish the capacity to develop and implement regionally focused distant learning programs for the GDLN. Through the GDLN-EAPA (part of the Virtual Colombo Plan), regional clients participate in distance learning programs that focus on specific issues of the region. Through such programs, the clients will be able to share experiences, and learn from those of neighboring countries.
