A TWO DAY EXPERIENTIAL PROGRAMCourse AimsThis course aims to provide people who are being groomed for leadership roles within the Public Service or the corporate sector with an introduction to the issues associated with moving from being competent managers to truly effective, inspiring and visionary leaders. The course will emphasise the importance of communication, resolve and motivation as a tool for effective leadership. It will focus on the art of building strong working relationships with business partners and maintaining staff and client satisfaction. The course aims to help newcomers move from mere survival to exemplary leadership in the first 90 days of a senior role. Of Relevance toThis course is suitable for aspiring young leaders from upper APS levels to the executive levels in the public service. Course OutlineThis course will provide participants with an understanding of the key aspects of effective leadership by looking at the transition from management to leadership roles, the decisions that leaders are faced with in the first 30 – 90 days in a leadership role, the communication processes within hierarchal organisational structures, intelligent risk taking, practices of leadership with cultural sensitivity, building effective relationships, and the tactical use of leadership levers such as design, resourcing, communication, performance and rewards. Key PresenterAndrew O’Keeffe is a consultant for global management consulting firm Hewitt Associates. He has twenty-five years’ experience in human resources, having worked for leading telecommunications and IT companies. Andrew studied economics, industrial relations and psychology at the University of Sydney and is the author of the acclaimed book ‘The Boss’. The ConvenerBruce Hill is in an ANU Associate who has extensive experience in corporate management, HR and professional consulting. He spent almost twenty years with Alcan Aluminium Limited in an international role. During his time as managing director of Alcan’s Uruguay operations, he instituted company-wide cultural change, based upon the personal and professional development of Alcan’s employees, a model that was adopted by the company world-wide. Bruce conducts management development programs throughout Australia and Asia. |
