OverviewThis course will provide participants with an introduction to the principles of organisational culture in both the public and the private sector. It will analyse trends in contemporary management practices. It will also provide an introduction to areas of organisational behaviour, human resource management and the principles of effective strategic leadership at the cutting edge of organisational reform. It will cover Australian and international case stuidies, providing a context for understanding and managing change processes in a global environment. Course ContentThe course will evaluate organizational culture and its short- and long-term impacts, examine the roles of individuals with differing values and behaviours in the workplace, and analyse the effects of change on productivity, customer services and profitability. It will look at implementing a cultural change program, develop indicators of impacts, and strategies for sustaining change. Material used in the unit will be drawn from recent management studies and experience and extensive use will be made of case studies.
Course ConvenorsBruce Hill has had an extensive and varied international career in management, human resources and consulting. He spent 19 years in top leadership with Alcan Aluminium Limited in Uruguay, Canada, Guinée, Spain and Australia. As the Chief Executive Officer of Alcan's operations in Uruguay, he designed and implemented a successful large-scale organisational culture change process based on the development of all employees. Now based in Sydney, he consults and runs management development programs in Australia and Asia, manages an international legal network and heads up a group in North Queensland pioneering plantation development of a fruit new to Australia. He has an MBA degree from McGill University, Montreal, and Bachelor degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Sydney and Arts (Economics) from The Australian National University and is an Associate of the Crawford School of Economics & Government. Jean Shannon is a change management specialist and has been the head of corporate communications in several government & peak organisations. She has led several organisations through strategic change processes in the eighties and nineties. Jean is currently Managing Director of a consulting firm and a professional corporate trainer. Jean has a background in applied communications theory and has presented senior management training all over Australia and Asia. |
