Master of Environmental and Resource Economics

Duration: 1 year full time, 2 years part time
Minimum: 48 units

The objective of the Masters in Environmental and Resource Economics  degree is to provide students with rigorous and specialist training in economics and the environment. The degree is designed for individuals with a strong background in economics.

On completion of the degree all students have well developed skills in quantitative analysis and modelling and an understanding of the economic approaches to resolve the challenges of resource overexploitation and misuse of the environment. Graduates are in high demand and have found employment in research, policy analysis and as consultants in Australia and overseas.

The program attracts both Australian and overseas students who are in high demand upon graduation. Students without a background in economics can enroll in the Graduate Diploma in Environmental & Resource Economics which offers the necessary background to undertake the MERE degree.

Program Director: Professor R. Quentin Grafton

Professor Grafton is the Director of the organised research centre CWEEP (Centre for Water Economics, Environment and Policy) and convenor of the Masters in Environmental and Resource Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy. He has 20 plus years experience in the fields of agriculture, the environment, natural resources and economics.

He has been listed in the top 500 of the world's economists and has been included in the Who's Who in the World, Dictionary of International Biography, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. He is the author or editor of eight books and 50 plus journal articles and has received several research awards (currently chief investigator on four ARC projects) and prizes. He has advised extensively on the issues of environmental, natural resources and agricultural economics to organisations in Australasia, North America and Europe.
