THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, CANBERRA
FIFTEENTH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE OF THE JAPANESE STUDIES ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA
The fifteenth biennial JSAA conference is to be held at the ANU campus in Canberra from 1-4 July 2007. The theme of the conference is Japan 2007: Adjusting to Change; Respecting the Past. This is the first time the ANU has hosted the JSAA conference since 1991.
This fifteenth conference coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the Australia-Japan Commerce Agreement which had such a seminal influence on Australia-Japan relations, and just as importantly, on Australian attitudes towards Japan. It is expected that activities to mark the anniversary may be held at the time of the Conference.
Papers are invited from academics undertaking research on Japan in Australia or in other countries. Papers will be presented in panels organised in five streams: Economics, business and trade; Politics, law and international relations; Communications, language and linguistics; History, sociology, and anthropology; and Culture, education and literature.
